Council Public Hearing
I'd never been to a Metro Council meeting before, so I don't know what an average night looks like. But to me, it sure seemed like a whole lot of people speaking up for MTA. Quite a wide variety of people and perspectives, from the personal to the business-minded. Tonight the Council saw an excellent cross-section of people who value public transit.

More than 3/4 of the people who made public comments at the Council meeting on June 3, 2008, supported MTA. They expressed a variety of concerns for potential transportation crisis if the seven routes are cut.
If fares are increased as planned, the shortfall is only $1.9 million. That's just $2 million out of a $1 billion budget for the city. The benefits of mass transit far outweigh the cost, so what line item could the City and Council give up to keep the buses rolling?
Write, call, and email your representatives. Send more letters to the paper. Talk to your friends and coworkers. Once these cuts take place, restoring the affected services will likely be much harder than cutting them.
My $0.02.
